Chinese Boxwood figure
Guanyin (Avalokitesvara) sitting on a lotus leaf with left hand holding a rosary and a Buddhist sutra (Prajnaparamita Sutra) in her right hand. The Guanyin (Avalokitesvara) is one of the most popular deity in Chinese Mahayana Buddhism, who are believed to be able to saves the people from different peril. From the 10th century onwards, the image of Avalokitesvara began to showing more female feature, instead of a male in its original context.

黃楊木雕自在觀音
取材自黃楊木立體雕一觀音菩薩，半坐于蓮葉之上左手持佛珠右手持經卷，面容祥和。觀音崇拜在漢傳佛教中尤爲興盛，又稱救苦觀音。其身份自10世紀后逐漸由原本的男子形象轉變為女性，既白袍觀音。
